Follicular unit counting system
Nowadays, clinical teams are the only source for patients to know the number of transplanted follicular units. Some clinics can mislead patients with numbers that are higher than the actual number of follicular units transplanted.
Due to this lack of certainty, we have developed a tool to ensure the actual number of follicular units transplanted. This is the follicular unit counting system, which is based on a neural network that can recognise follicular units; it can therefore count the actual number of follicular units transplanted for the patient.
To train this network, around 90,000 follicular units were manually identified by clinical experts in hundreds of images. This training allows the neuronal network to perform the same task automatically. The system developed was then validated by an international company to ensure the system’s accuracy with a minimal error rate.
The system developed can be used not only by our patients but by patients from different clinics who want to have proof of the transplantation procedure performed, specifically the actual number of follicular units transplanted. By doing so, we are also making the market more reliable and ensuring that no one is deceived.
